Once upon a time, there was a groundhog who came out of his den, looked around and then decided whether he was up for good or going back for a nap. Nowadays, they drag him out of his den, force him outside whether he wants it or not, and then, if it’s a sunny day – he sees his shadow. But if it’s cloudy, he doesn’t. DUH. Does anyone else think this is fixed?

My friend, Jeff Becker, who has been farming so long that he looks like Santa when he grows his beard in the wintertime, has a different criteria. He watches the birds. Last week, numerous flocks of geese were returning to the area. Now, they don’t come for a few days and leave. They are here to stay if the climate is ready for them.

So don’t listen to the groundhog – listen to the geese. Spring is almost here. Get ready to take the bike out.
Thanks Jeff.

When is spring going to show its face? I just heard that Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee has 14.7 inches of lake effect snow today. Out here in Oconomowoc, we just have the cold air and sunshine. I’m ready to get the cycle out and start pedaling, but it will have to be warmer than 40 degrees.

It’s hard to show Lake condos and property when the ice on the lake is still staring you in the face. With Easter in April this year, it does seem like winter is taking a long time to start moving on.

Hurry Spring!
